Madre dolorosa

This project is inscribed in the series of autobiographical projects. Its point of departure is the life of my mother, her trajectory as well as that of her sisters. The idea is to work with the very actors of this story: that is my mother, my father, my mother’s two sisters and my two uncles. It will be on the one hand a work with the actors of this story, as well as a tentative reconstitution by one of its secondary characters, the son (my self). The objective is to question poverty and war, dreams and lost hopes, separation, fraternal attachment and mourning, sadness. A simple trajectory, a classical schema which in a way relates to the work of Tchekhov. To start with the particular, real life, in its banality, and to confront it with an essential theatrical text, The Three Sisters. A simple story, without actions, with times passed invading the present, and simply the passage of time.

«You say: life is beautiful. Yes, but what if it was a mistake? For us, the three sisters, life has not yet been beautiful, it has suffocated us, like a bad weed…»

«Where? Where did all of this go? Where, my God, my God! I have forgotten everything, everything! All is entangled in my mind. I no longer know how one says « window » or « ceiling » in Italian. I forget, I forget more every day, and life passes, it will never come back, and never, never will we go to Moscow! I can foresee we will never go.»

This work is about the relation between mother and son, between father and son, about family ties, about individual stories as a driving force of the epic tale - as a canvas for a legend.

In a sober or even poor space, one imagines an alternation of moments of great simplicity referring to daily life and moments of a more phantasmagorical nature.
